Different Temperaments...

What is your  Temperament?

"Every human is born with genetically inherited 'behavioral tendencies'
 that are as
much a part of their DNA as their eye color or finger-print." - Reydon Stanford

Meet Gary Fusco M.B.S, Ph. D.

My name is Dr. Gary Fusco, and I have devoted my life to biblical counseling. My goal is to provide professional counseling for the healing of emotional wounds, broken relationships, disabling and destructive behaviors, and other struggles which prevent us from reaching our full potential in Christ.

I have a Masters in Biblical Studies and a Doctorate in Christian Counseling, both from NYC Full Gospel Theological Seminary. I studied Temperament and counseling directly under John Cocoris, Psy.D. at Profile Dynamics.

I am a certified Temperament instructor, Inner Healing Practitioner, and Deliverance Minister well-trained in teaching and guiding people through spiritual warfare. I have taught both Counseling and Temperament courses at The International College of Cultural Studies in Hyderabad, India and Grace Center in Bahir Dar, Ethiopia. I am also foster parent training certified by the state of Florida with advanced training in 3rd and 4th crisis child intervention care.

I will give a short explanation of each of these two major emphases that I use together on a regular basis:

What is Temperament?

Why do some people hate to swim and others love it?  Why are some people efficient and organized while others are unproductive and disorganized?  Why do some people explode with anger when others would pout and withdraw?  Why do some people become leaders and others are content to follow?  Why does one person want an explanation for everything and another follows his gut with no questions asked?  Is it luck, genetics, environment, the stars and planets, parental conditioning, or something else?

People are different primarily because they possess different natural traits or tendencies, referred to as temperament.  Temperament refers to a person’s natural disposition, the way in which one will consistently behave.  The concept of temperament recognizes that people are born with natural ways of behaving, such as being assertive, friendly, passive, or analytical.  It is a person’s temperament that makes him outgoing and extroverted or shy and introverted.

It is of benefit furthermore to recognize one's temperament. Only if one knows it, can he judge correctly himself, his moods, his peculiarities, his past life. If one knows one's own temperament, he can work out his own perfection with greater assurance, because finally the whole effort toward self-perfection consists in the perfection of his strengths and in the combating of his weaknesses.
I have found the best way to present temperament is with a five – six hour seminar followed by individual or group counseling sessions, in conjunction with each individual taking the temperament assessment to determine their particular temperament blend. This seminar will help you:

  • Understand why you do what you do and think like you think.
  • Understand why people are different.
  • Clarify who exactly is this person God created me to be?
  • Identify how your behavior impacts others.
  • Identify areas of strength to develop.
  • Identify weaknesses that need to be controlled.
  • Communicate more effectively with others.
  • Understand the needs of your spouse and children.
  • Answer the question why do I so naturally tend to do certain things or behave certain ways?

At this point, once you have a basic foundation and understanding of the temperaments, I offer individuals, couples, and groups the opportunity to come to a deeper and very personal understanding of who they are, how they think, and why they do what they do. In private sessions they will:
First, have their temperament validated. This is crucial in making sure you have taken the instrument correctly and are truly the blend represented.

Second, your graphs will be explained, revealing how you are perceived by others, how you operate under pressure, and the intensity of your blend based on the positioning of the plotting points.
Third, more time can be given to exploring your particular strengths that need to be appreciated and developed, and your particular weaknesses that need to be controlled.

Fourth, couples or groups can investigate temperament tendencies that have lead to misunderstandings, arguing, and a gradual breakdown of communication. The needs of their personal blends will be discussed and guidance will be given on how spouses or team members can work towards meeting each other’s needs. From this effort flows peace, contentment, and unity.

Spiritual Warfare

Nearly two thousand years ago Jesus came to the help of suffering humanity, working miracles by healing the sick and casting out demons.  Throughout the three and a half years of his earthly ministry, this never changed.   Mark begins his record of the public ministry of Jesus with an incident in which a demon challenged him as he was teaching in a synagogue in Galilee. From that point on, we see Jesus dealing with demons wherever he encountered them.

But this ministry was not to end with him.  When Jesus commissioned his followers, he transmitted his authority to them.  In fact, he never sent anyone out to preach the Gospel without specifically instructing and equipping that person to take action against demons in the same way that he himself did.  I can find no basis anywhere in the New Testament for an evangelistic ministry that does not include the expelling of demons.  This is as true today as it was in the time of Jesus.

This makes it all the more remarkable that this ministry has been largely ignored by the contemporary Church in many parts of the world.  Evangelism, especially in the West, has frequently been practiced as if demons did not exist.  This is not New Testament evangelism.  I will take this a step further and apply it to the ministry of praying for the sick.  I believe it is unscriptural to pray for the sick if one is not prepared also to cast out demons.  Jesus did not separate one from the other.

My goal in teaching spiritual warfare is to bring freedom to people who are under demonic oppression and do not know how to get free and are enduring the various degrees of torment that demons inflict.  In some cases, the mental, emotional, and physical torment is as severe as that of people imprisoned and tortured in prison camps.

In my seminar on spiritual warfare I seek first to lay a solid, scriptural foundation, and then to build on it a practical explanation of what is involved in dealing with demons.  I deal with questions such as what are demons?  How do they come in?  Can a Christian have a demon?  What is the occult?  Is witchcraft still at work today?  I then give a practical systematic teaching on how to recognize and expel demons, and how to walk in victory.
